If the UK leaves the European Union without a ratified Withdrawal Agreement then UK nationals will, in future, be required to carry new documentation when taking a UK registered vehicle abroad.
If you intend to take a Europcar hire car out of the UK and into another country post-Brexit then, in addition to our written consent (the VE103B), you will also need to show proof of insurance cover. When you purchase our Europdrive Breakdown Cover or our Cross-Border pack (whichever one applies to your trip and provides essential breakdown cover) then, if you are driving the hire car under our collision damage waiver cover (CDW), we will supply you with this proof of insurance in the form of a “Green Card”.

Europdrive is Europcar's cross-border breakdown product that is mandatory* for customers if they wish to take their UK hire abroad. Whether you're just visiting Rep. of Ireland, crossing the channel to Calais or going on a longer cruise, Europdrive is essential.

Not only does Europdrive give customers peace of mind with 24 hour, 365 day breakdown cover whilst they're overseas, but it also provides them with a proof of ownership of the vehicle as is a legal requirement within the EU. Customers are only required to pay for the time the vehicle is abroad**.

Once purchased, customers will recieve an RAC booklet with all the necessary documents to take their UK car hire abroad, including details of the breakdown service available and emergency telephone numbers. In the unlikely event of a breakdown, if the vehicle cannot be fixed, a replacement vehicle will be provided to complete their journey.

*Europdrive can only be purchased over the phone or at the pickup station a few days prior to your pickup date. As Europdrive is mandatory, Europcar reserve the right to cancel the whole booking if Europdrive is not purchased alongside.

**The cost of Europdrive depends on the length of time the customer plans to take the car abroad and ranges from just £84 for a 1-3 day hire and up to £240 for 28 days +. For example, if the customer is hiring a vehicle for 10 days, but is only driving abroad for 3, they will only need to purchase Europdrive for the 3 days that they are not in the UK. Customers are advised to speak to their Europcar pickup location if they are thinking of taking their hire abroad.

Note that one way fees and conditions vary depending on the country and vehicle type and model. Vehicles should not be driven to another continent.

We offer delivery and collection services domestically and internationally. This is bookable GDS and phone bookings.
In the UK, deliveries can me made to home addresses however note that this is not the case worldwide.
Some countries only offer business addresses deliveries, our reservations department will be able to advise the restrictions in each country.

Some of our vehicles are equipped with fitted GPS, however this cannot be guaranteed. If this is a must for your client, please ensure you add it when booking.

  • Vouchers cannot be issued in Canada and USA by any travel agency in the UK.
  • Credit card payments are accepted in both countries

  • USA:
  • - e-vouchers: if you have a registered travel agency account with Europcar, please contact your account manager will be able to process the booking on your behalf. The agency will be invoiced as usual and rates will be commissionable at 15%)
  • - Credit card – the main driver’s name should appear on the credit card. Most station will not accept debit cards

  • Canada:
  • - e-vouchers are not available in Canada

  • - What is the name and first name of driver?
  • - What is the place for pick-up?
  • - What is the date for pick-up?
  • - What is the time for pick-up (in case of airport/railways, please ask to provide with the flight number or train number in order to wait for your customer in case of delays?)
  • - What is the place for drop-off?
  • - What is the date for drop-off?
  • - What is the time for drop-off?
  • - What car group is needed?
  • - Please check if the customer is travelling with children under 10 years old? If yes, what is their age, weight & height (in order to book the right mandatory adapted seat)?
  • - Please check if other equipment (for ex., navigation system, snow chains, etc.) is needed?
  • - Will there be any additional drivers?
  • - Will the driver(-s) be under 26 years old at time of rental?
  • - Will the main driver have a credit card at his/her name and first name?
  • Local driving licence: You will need to present your normal driving licence, issued by your country of residence and held for a minimum period according to local legislation or conditions. It will be requested at every rental.
  • International driving licence: before the rental, please check if your Local Driving Licence is enough to drive the car in the country you are travelling to. Please keep in mind that International Driving Licence is only valid when accompanied with your Local Driving Licence!

Always check the countries specifications when booking and it is essential the driver is informed

Identification documents required: An identification document, such as a passport or ID card may also be required. The driver licence is not sufficient.

Full credit voucher: no credit card will be required on collection of the car Exception: Italy and Abu Dhabi

Specified value vouchers: amount could be anything, please note that a credit card will be required on collection of the car

Credit card: A valid credit card in the name of the main driver must be presented on collection

Cancellation Policy

Reservations may be cancelled as follows:

  • Net/Corporate/Retail Pay on Arrival rates – no cancellation charges apply. In case of a Customer failing to cancel the booking and to show up at the station at the due pick up time, a no show fee* may be applied.
  • Retail Prepaid rates – no cancellation charges apply, if the reservation is cancelled up to 24 hours before the due pick up time. If the reservation is cancelled within 24 hours of pick up time, a cancellation charge of 95 EUR (or equivalent amount in renting currency) will apply. In case of a Customer failing to cancel the booking and to show up at the station at the due pick up time, a no show fee* may be applied.

No Show Policy

Europcar branded Retail Business:

  • In case of a Customer failing to show up at the station at the due pick up time and when the means of payment chosen at the reservation time is voucher, then the relevant Europcar Operational Entity shall invoice the TA/TO a no show fee of 95€ (or equivalent amount in renting currency).
  • In case of a Customer failing to show up at the station at the due pick up time and when the means of payment chosen at the reservation time is credit card with its details provided at the time of reservation, then the relevant Europcar Operational Entity shall invoice the Customer a no show fee of 95€ (or equivalent amount in renting currency).

If the rental value s less than 95€, whole rental value will be charged to the TA/TO/Customer.

If the rental value of the prepaid reservation is more than 95€, then the TA/TO/Customer may claim back the amount difference. 



Europcar branded Net Rate Business:
- In case of a Customer failing to show up at the station at the due pick up time, then the relevant Europcar Operational Entity shall invoice the TA/TO a no show fee of 95€ (or equivalent amount in renting currency).

  • Unless a full credit voucher has been issued, a deposit will required. 
  • When the customer arrives at the rental location, he will be asked to leave a deposit for his/her rental. The deposit amount will be authorized/blocked on the credit card, but not debited from the bank account. The deposit is intended to cover additional rental costs. 
  • The amount is calculated as follows: 
    - For non prepaid rentals: Rental price + 300€/250£ (or equivalent amount in renting currency)
    - For fully prepaid rentals: 300€/250£ (or equivalent amount in renting currency)
    - Exception for full credit voucher in Italy, a credit card is ALWAYS required and an authorization of 100€ will be required.
  • Please note that this policy is applicable for rentals made in the following countries, where Europcar operates its services directly: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and United Kingdom. For other countries, please refer to the country's specific Terms and Conditions
